writing chapter 5.2
today was a continuation of yesterday, which consists of turning the research and notes into a progression of notes and research in my own words, then rearranging them into some sort of narrative, and trimming them down a bunch where things repeat. all still very sketchy, just reminders and key points, and in a few cases quotes, either because it’s too complex to figure out, or to reduce and add in with something else, or because it’s important to keep the tone of the original quote. in the case of mckenna’s theories on mushrooms and evolutionary consciousness, they’re written in the same high-flown bullshit tone the consciousness gurus used back in the 60s, which i find very irritating 40 years later.
quantum computer. games could have a huge improvement on how many things are active at the same time. Since the computer would run so fast, vast improvements could be made to graphics, AI and dynamic objects.
einstein’s generation took it for granted that an independent world existed outside of the observer, a world that was set up at the beginning of time, and operated according to immutable laws we were only beginning to understand. time and space external/eternal realities, surround and bind, fundamental to life, above/beyond/outside human experience, life within gridwork of spacetime. already understand the nature of reality, in principle, and that all that is left to do is to fill in the details.”
but reality not there unless observed. heisenberg path comes into existence only when observed. no self existing external universe where physical events occur independent of life. no arrow of time. no living on edge of time. no irreversible continuum of events. time is convention, chronic act of thinking, visualizing and anticipating, making it up, scattering consciousness, practice of locating things by time / place tag but just convention so we’re all on same page. subjective experience, biocentrism. flow, timeless state is reality, non thinking state. time doesn’t exist unless there’s someone to notice it, and if you ignore time, it goes away.

upon observation, the possibility wave squares itself to make a probability curve. not really square, but product of wavefunction with its complex conjugate wave that specifies real physical probability amplitude of finding particle.
probability = 1 for finding damn thing somewhere. cramer

consciousness problem. avoid it and work on easy problems, suggest consciousness beyond realm of science. deny, not verifiable externally, same thing as inanimate observer. fudging like who does squaring.
how does squaring occur, where does conjugate wave come from?
we construct a past based on the product of two opposed possibility waves.
source emits wave forward in time, also emits wave backward in time. receiver also emits waves forward and backward.
stream flowing from past to present originates in past, stream flowing from present to past originates in present.
stream flowing from future to present originates in future, stream flowing from present to future originates in present.
on observation a standing wave is generated propagating toward future looking for receiver event and toward past looking for sender event (which is the same as receiving an offer wave from a past observation event) so you’re shooting off a particle at this end, and it puts out a bow wave that goes faster than the particle.
at the same time you fire it off, there’s a wave started at the receiver/absorption point over at that end, that goes back toward the sender/emitting point. conjugate wave comes back in time from future toward origin of possibility wave, meeting original wave at every moment, combining and modulating it. phases of waves cancel each other out, conveniently leaving no trace before or after absorption or emitting point. where they meet, they moderate and/or cancel each other out.
when the wave from the future hits the origin of the wave from the past, they two waves multiply each other, the wavefunction collapses, and the particle is now in one spot of spacetime and can be measured. when conjugate wave meets possibility wave’s origin, the two waves multiply, the wavefunction collapses, and the probability curve is created for the event to occur in spacetime.
collapse doesn’t happen at one place, but atemporally, all along the transaction, like pinching dough. plus waves are real, not just mathematical device to record observer’s knowledge.
all side by side past present future, exchanging possibility waves, future event sending back conjugate possibility wave to interfere with present-to-future possibility wave. if streams match – modulation produces strong combined wave and future and present resonant = meaningful (resonance with past or future become more true, if resonance then present / future link meaningful), then real future is created from present point of view and real memory of sequences is created in the future. if combined wave is weak less probability of resonance = less meaningful connection between past present future.
i’m not sure where this happens, is it when the wave from the future goes all the way back to the original event and squares there, or is it where the event wave meets the echo wave, wherever along that path it might be. maybe it happens atemporally, instantaneously all along the path, maybe it happens only where it is measured, because that’s when the wavefunction collapses. but the modulation, is that where the possibility waves add and subtract from each other? mostly they cancel each other out, tho, don’t they? the event wave and the conjugate waves are possibility waves, and they add in the middle but square in the end, so we’re creating probability curves by squaring and then adding the modulations of the possibility waves to that?
memories aren’t in the past, a memory is current recall (interpretation) of events in the past. bergson. memories not stored in brain, not files socked away in computer storage. sheldrake. brain tunes in to future, resonates with past, mind controlling brain. time not one way, timeless state spiritual traditions where past present future all real all here now.
the causal relationships we see between events themselves arise from this deeper order where the possibility-waves reside.
what i see with my own eyes. yes, but what you see exists only inside your brain, the place where visual images are seen and understood. you only perceive the perceptions. nothing exists outside of consciousness, no external reality. no out there. the outside world is located inside the mind.
“we become aware of bodily sensation by referring back in time from later moment of brain signal arrival to earlier moment of bodily sensation. aware of events before brain registers them.” test on brain operation patient where he makes up reasons for why his arm twitched when the surgeon tweaked a spot. runner who was off the block and running how many seconds before his brain heard the shot? libet the brain deciding which hand to raise ten seconds before the person decides to raise it. it’s all done subconsciously, and the mind which likes to think it controls things comes along and makes up an excuse for it, second guessing it, habitual thinking as a bad thing. involvement with time. brain is as autonomous as heart and digestion and the rest of our bodies. we sit like fussy demons on top of our heads and wreak havoc on our hair. personal free will sign of neurotic guilty control, need to be right or at least not fuck up. habitual retrospective perspective of ongoing flow of brain events. inner narration of brain events, interpreting and echoing and agendas and programming, believing it’s in charge of body, decisions, actions. raging atop lumbering automaton.

In a normal dream, we have a very basal consciousness, we experience perceptions and emotions but we are not aware that we are only dreaming. It’s only in a lucid dream that the dreamer gets a meta-insight into his or her state.” Neuroscientists have believed that three brain regions are critical for self-awareness: the insular cortex, the anterior cingulate cortex, and the medial prefrontal cortex. However, a research team led by the University of Iowa has challenged this theory by showing that self-awareness is more a product of a diffuse patchwork of pathways in the brain – including other regions – rather than confined to specific areas. In all likelihood, self-awareness emerges from much more distributed interactions among networks of brain regions.” The authors believe the brainstem, thalamus, and posteromedial cortices play roles in self-awareness. “In a lucid state, the activity in certain areas of the cerebral cortex increases markedly within seconds. The involved areas of the cerebral cortex are the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, to which commonly the function of self-assessment is attributed, and the frontopolar regions, which are responsible for evaluating our own thoughts and feelings. The precuneus is also especially active, a part of the brain that has long been linked with self-perception.”
anesthetic, at the point lose consciousness, brain patterns suddenly start cycling at 1hz, while small electrodes show flicking pattern in individual neurons, active for a couple hundred milliseconds, quiet for a couple hundred milliseconds. local neurons tick over but it doesn’t get recognized by other areas of brain. propofol. consciousness emerges out of computer-like structure of brain, with names like reductionism, physicalism, materialism, computationalism, functionalism. the latest reduction of consciousness to mere matter – neural correlate of consciousness – involves neural level substrate – synchronous neural circuits in thalamus and cerebral cortex, mediated by coherent thalamo-cortical 40hz oscillations that bind consious experience. does coherence / resonation happen in thalamus or cortical network / angels head pin.

One of the effects that comes about from the ingestion of low doses, which agrees with one of scientist Roland Fischer’s findings from the late 1960s-early 1970s, is it significantly improves the visual acuity of humans – so theoretically, of other human-like mammals too. this effect would have definitely proven to be of evolutionary advantage to humans’ omnivorous hunter-gatherer ancestors that would have stumbled upon it “accidentally”; as it would make it easier for them to hunt. In higher doses, the mushroom acts as a sexual stimulator, which would make it even more beneficial evolutionarily, as it would result in more offspring. novelty theory the universe has a teleological attractor at the end of time that increases interconnectedness, eventually reaching a singularity of infinite complexity in 2012 at which point anything and everything imaginable will occur simultaneously, what he referred to as the Eschaton. He conceived this idea over several years in the early to mid-1970s while using psilocybin mushrooms and DMT. McKenna viewed the universe as a swarm of matter waves, spiralling down the gradient of their synergetic (energetically favourable) constructive interference. the universe as being “pulled from the future toward a goal that is as inevitable as a marble reaching the bottom of a bowl when you release it up near the rim…it comes to rest at the lowest energy state, which is the bottom of the bowl. That’s precisely my model of human history.” when two matter waves become connected by mutual constructive interference (quantum entanglement, rapport), they imagine or grok each other. imagination was capable of interconnecting matter waves instantaneously, stating that “the imagination is a dimension of nonlocal information,” and “novelty is density of connection.” “What is happening to our world is ingression of novelty toward what Whitehead called “concrescence”, a tightening gyre. Everything is flowing together. The “autopoietic lapis”, the alchemical stone at the end of time, coalesces when everything flows together. When the laws of physics are obviated, the universe disappears, and what is left is the tightly bound plenum, the monad, able to express itself for itself, rather than only able to cast a shadow into physis as its reflection. I come very close here to classical millenarian and apocalyptic thought in my view of the rate at which change is accelerating. From the way the gyre is tightening, I predict that the concrescence will occur soon—around 2012 AD. It will be the entry of our species into hyperspace, but it will appear to be the end of physical laws accompanied by the release of the mind into the imagination.”

“Quantum computation with objective reduction may hold the only promise for conscious computers. According to the proposals put forth in the Orch OR model, microtubules seem to be well designed (perhaps ideally designed) quantum computers. such as cylindrical lattice automata and alternating phases of isolation and communication. massive parallelism and specific microtubule lattice geometry (e.g. helical patterns following the Fibonacci series) may also facilitate quantum error correction.
technology will be hard-pressed to emulate / mimic nature’s design principles / objective reduction which, it is argued, is required for consciousness. quantum computers will implement superposition of ions, electrons, nuclei or other small entities. To achieve objective reduction in a reasonable and useful time scale, a fairly large superposed mass (i.e. nanograms) will be required.”
problem with warm wetware is thermal noise, decoherence. perfect isolation of quantum from environment, with quantum error correction codes. then how to communicate with outside, plug or wireless. conditions support quantum states in microtubules in brain. tubulin protein natural qubit, switches between two states, governed by hydrophobic pocket electron pairs coupled by London forces. If hydrophobic pocket electron pair is superposed, then protein conformation is also superposed and exists in both states simultaneously. isolated and configured, protein qubits = quantum computer.
brain has neural activity, proposals how macroscopic quantum phenomena are connected. coherent bose-einstein condensates occur in neural proteins ?marshal 1989? unitary binding, collapsing wavefunction in pre-synaptic axon terminals, microtubules inside neurons as self-organizing computers. marshall, penrose, bohm, hiley, jubu, yasue, hameroff, stapp, beck, eccles.
